Banked Overtime at CP Rail

January 24, 2007

Brothers and Sisters employed at CPrail,

Article 3.11 of the Collective Agreement states,

Banked Overtime

3.11 The Company agrees to allow employees to bank a maximum of 5 days to be taken as time off in lieu of overtime payments. Requests for time off in lieu of overtime will be evaluated based on operational requirements and the need for resources. Employees can request that their banked time be processed for payment. Banked time will be accumulated on the basis of 1 hour overtime, to 1 ½ hours banked.

Note: See Appendix B-31 Banked Overtime (Separate Layoff Bank )

It was suggested some time ago by member Shayne Brighton, that we should begin banking our overtime and saving that in case of a job action. I would like to re-inforce this. I would also suggest that everyone who can, especially now during snow service, put aside at least half of their overtime pay (after their 5 day bank is full) to have on hand if there is a strike/ lockout. Though we are actively working against this possibility, it is always best to be prepared.

If there is a job action, we will want it to be as beneficial to us as possible, so we are putting all of our strategies in place, marshalling our forces and talking with our friends. We would suggest that you do the same in as far as you can, on a financial basis at home. Do not take this as anything more than proper preparation.

I will continue to keep you fully updated as this progresses.

In solidarity,

Bill Brehl
