Wayne Burke Memorial
May 17th, 2006
Brothers and Sisters,
On May 15th we gathered about 20 miles west of Ignace, Ontario to say goodbye to Brother Wayne Burke, who was killed at work in 1997.
Director Gary Doherty got a commitment from the company last year to finally get a plaque set up at the location. The company arranged for Wayne's Brother Tek (a crane operator from the Pacific Region) and his Mother and Sister to attend. They also allowed everyone working in the area, or who had known Wayne, to come out and pay their respects without a loss in pay.
It was a good day to gather together and there were a lot of good and positive comments made. Though it was extremely emotional for the family, and they expressed how Wayne's accident had a devastating effect on their lives, they were also glad to have this closure and to see so many of Wayne's friends and co-workers come out to remember him.
Thanks to all who attended and all those who worked so hard to make this a reality, it truly meant a lot to the family. Wayne was loved by many and is missed by everyone who knew him.
Fraternally,
Bill Brehl
