CPRail Strike

May 15th, 2007

Brothers and Sisters,

Tonight at 11:59 PM MDT (Calgary time), we will officially be on strike. The following are the times in your province:

BC (PDT) - the strike will commence at 10:59 PM Tuesday, May 15th.

AB (and eastern BC) (MDT) - the strike will commence at
11:59 PM Tuesday, May 15th.

SK & MB (CT) - the strike will commence 12:59 AM Wednesday, May 16th.

ON & QC (EDT) - the strike will commence at 1:59 AM Wednesday, May 16th.

There are rumours all over the property being spread by company officials. I will put them to rest right now.

  1. There are no discussions planned, even though we have always maintained that we are open to any and all meaningful dialogue, the company has not moved from their position. The strike will proceed as planned.

  2. This is a full scale national strike and will involve ALL TCRC MWED members.

  3. At the above mentioned hour the strike will commence and the company cannot force you to stay at work even if they claim they have an emergency. Anyone who is refused the ability to exit CPR property, call myself or your Director immediately so that we can initiate legal action.

  4. I have heard that certain managers have put a 'bounty' on my head (whatever that means). I'm not worried and neither should you be. If anyone threatens you, report it to me immediately. Besides, when they wake up, I'm sure that they will apologize.
Once you are on the picket lines, we require that you comport yourself in a professional fashion and observe all laws. Anyone who breaks the law at a picket line runs the risk of having a court imposed injunction shut that line down. Do not let the 'scabs' provoke you.

I am proud of each and every one of you and of the Directors and strike captains. The bargaining committee as well, has done an exemplary job.

Though we did not want this fight, we will stand up for our rights. At the end of the day, that is always what it comes down to.

I will see you on the lines,

Stay safe, stay strong, stay united, God bless all of you...
