For your Information: Employee Relations officers conduct statements

Brothers and Sisters,

Attached please find a letter that I have sent to Mr. Andrew Shields today. It seems that the company is now having Employee Relations officers conduct statements and investigate our members on discipline issues. This is the same department that we have been advised to call, and to trust, if we have Human Rights and/or harassment and discrimination concerns.

As you are all aware, Human Rights and zero tolerance for harassment and discrimination are extremely important matters to this administration. These matters must be dealt with confidentially, fairly and with impartiality. There can be no doubt, not even the inference of a doubt, that the individuals investigating any and all such complaints are unbiased and will do so in a fair manner. Therefore, I'm sure that you can understand why we have to take the position which we are now forced to take, when we see that this department is also handling disciplinary statements and investigations.

As you can see from the letter that I have sent to Mr. Shields, I want them to remove the reference to Employee Relations on page 2 of our collective agreement. Hopefully they will do so, but if they refuse, we will use every method at our disposal to accomplish this.

However, what I would like you to do immediately, is to strike out the reference on page 2 in your current collective agreement and inform your members that if they have a Human Rights problem, they should contact myself or VP Tirelli at 1 800 567 0571 or 1 519 819 1530 or 1 514 220 2870. We will put you in contact with the proper representatives, authorities and/or legal help, without any worry about confidentiality or repercussions.

Fraternally,

Bill Brehl
