A Fallen Brother

July 11, 2006

Brothers and Sisters,

Today, Brother Gord Pears was killed in a tragic accident at home.

Gord worked on the Creston, BC section and was an exceptional husband and father, a long time railroader, a strong Union Brother, a musician and a friend to me and everyone else who knew him.

Gord's best friend, Local Chair John Lindhorst called me this afternoon with the news. John is a standup guy, who although extremely shaken by this tragedy, will insure that Gord's wife Jan, and their kids, are taken care of during their time of grief.

There are lots of people out there who talk a good game about loyalty and devotion and strength, but Gord lived the life. On more than one occasion, when the chips were down, Gord stepped up to the plate and selflessly delivered. Those who knew him, know exactly what I'm talking about.

Over the next few days, I will get the date and time of the services for Gord, so anyone who needs this information please contact me or Pacific Director Henry Helfenbein.

We'll miss you Gord. The world, and especially the Kootenays, got a little darker today.
