Fatality on the Mountain Sub

Brothers and Sisters,

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of our brother, Bob Martin, this evening.

Around noon today while cleaning ice in the MacDonald Tunnel on the Mountain Sub east of Revelstoke, BC, Bob was struck by an eighteen foot chunk of falling ice. The ice drove his head into the rail and a pandrol clip causing extensive head injuries and trauma. Bob was rushed to the Golden hospital for treatment and then air lifted to Foothills hospital in Calgary, AB. He was put on life support in the intensive care unit until his wife arrived from their home just north of Calgary. He never regained consciousness and passed away around a quarter after six this evening.

This is awfully hard for me to write at the moment, so I will close by saying that this hurts all of us. Each and every one of us. I don't care if you are management or labour, whether you knew Bob or not. One of our own has fallen and he will not be getting back up. It is senseless, it is wrong and it hurts. A lot.
