Rail Security

November 20, 2006

Brothers and Sisters,

As you know, the TCRC MWED launched a campaign to increase the awareness of the need for security on Canada's Railways (for more info go to www.tcrcmwed.ca , click on the "Red Triangle" and check the news archives).

On Thursday November 16th, 2006, we attended a meeting with CP Police Chief Gerry Moody, Superintendent Gerry Fish, LR AVP Rick Wilson and Paul Soetemans of their training group.

It was an informative and productive meeting, with Chief Moody showing a genuine interest in our campaign and also in our assistance as they roll out their training package on Security.

Like Chief Moody, we see this as a win/win situation that is outside of the usual contentious issues that we deal with. Your safety and the safety of the public is the most important part of railroading. The more you know to protect yourself, the better off you will be.

The training is not only designed to help you better identify possible hazards and threats, but also to give you the knowledge of what to do (and not to do) if a situation occurs.

Part of the training and awareness is the course which I have attached for you to take a look at. The only thing is that you have to be a CP employee to connect. I apologize to those that cannot access it for that reason, but perhaps once it is rolled out on the property, the company will get us a copy to distribute.

It was produced by the American Railroad Association, and you can see that it is geared to an American audience. However, the content is just as relevant here.

In solidarity,

Bill Brehl
President
TCRC MWED

Bill:

As discussed yesterday, this is the link to the on-line security
training. Remember that this is not the final version and the audio
does not work as well as the demo you saw yesterday. Some slides have
audio and others do not. We will fix this problem when we get the
natives and revise the course. Once completed, the process for
accessing the revised course will be the same as listed in the
instructions below.
