Thanks to the Minister of Labour

After a nationwide strike that affected 3200 maintenance workers ended on June 7th, the TCRC MWED would like to thank the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour, for inviting the parties back to the bargaining table and making this historic agreement possible.

"Labour Minister Blackburn arranged to have CP come back to the table and with the assistance of the mediators, Elizabeth MacPherson and William Lewis, we were able to resolve our dispute. After three long weeks on strike, we now have an agreement that we are proud of. There is a handsome monetary package and CPRail withdrew their demands for work rule changes. All in all, this is an above average settlement and we commend CPRail for agreeing to it." said TCRC MWED President Bill Brehl. "We truly appreciate that this negotiated settlement was possible and Minister Blackburn helped us to achieve that."

This is the second negotiated settlement that the TCRC MWED have accomplished with CPRail, since joining the Teamsters in 2004. The current agreement, if ratified, will cover 2007, 2008 and 2009. Workers have begun returning to work and a mail out ratification ballot will be held over the next five weeks.
