Another wife checks in
May 23, 2007
I'm taking a little break from the picket line to get a bite and thought that I would send this along:
I am the spouse of a TCRC-MWED on strike. We have been keeping up to all that is on the site regularly, and I have seen the letters of support and letters of wives. I decided to throw in my two cents also. I have recently listened to Fred Green's speech, and I am disgusted to think that this man actually believes that the railroad can run without all these men, if that is so, then I wish he would tell me why my husband has had to go out on Christmas day a few years back to spread snow with the Jordan Spreader cause the trains were stranded, TCRC-MWED were needed then. I am also a working mom, and I also get up in the middle of the night for work, the phone often rings a couple hours before my clock, my husband is needed to fix a broken rail, go check on a rough spot reported by train crews, take care of ice building on the rail near rock cuts as ice melts in the warmth of the day, and freezes up with the cold temperatures at night, the TCRC-MWED were needed then also. Has Fred Green ever sat down to re
lax after working a hard days work for a well deserved meal with his family only to have the phone ring again with problems on the rail that can only be tended to by TCRC-MWED, leaving your meal to be set in the fridge for whenever you return home to finally have a bite to eat, a few hours of sleep and back to a regular work day. These men go out and perform their duty, NOT for the big bucks Fred Green is making, but because it is their job and they do what is needed to be done. Many of these men out there, have been working for many years doing what they do, my husband has been with the company for 33 years and is a third generation railroader, what is Fred Green's background, why on earth is it deemed right for him to earn millions, does he not realize he wouldn't have millions if these men were not earning it for him by doing the work they do. Keeping the railroad in the best shape possible is what they do, and yes, during the strike others may keep it going for a while, but definately not forever, it is already deteriating as each day goes by. In the long run, these are the men that are needed to do the job. I sure hope CPRail comes to their senses soon before something tragic occurs over the stupidity of their greed. I needed to vent some frustrations as I know many of you also are very frustrated with the way CPRail seems to view your services. You'se deserve more respect from the company than what they are willing to give you'se. Hang in there, Stay Strong and Stay Safe. Look out for each other.
Mr. Brehl, Please do not add our names in respect to my husband, I wouldn't want any hardships to come his way, just as a pre-caution.
Thanks for everything you'se are doing, Good Luck........

Once again a wife is worried about retaliation from this company against the company because she spoke her mind and her heart. A company that her husband has worked at for 33 years. Keep the faith bothers and sisters. We are in the good fight. God bless all of you and protect you, I am proud to be with you.
Stay safe, stay strong, stay united.
Bill Brehl
