Though
this may be kept off of the news, the following was sent from
Sudbury. Thanks, guys.

At
approximately 1500 on May 30, 2007, train 436 derailed the last
seven (7) cars of a fifty-three (53) car loaded, steel train
at approximately mile 1.7 of the Webbwood Subdivision when pulling
the train out of the passing track at Creosote. This is 1.7
miles west of Sudbury on the Webbwood Sub.
Each
steel car weighs from 80 to 100 tons. The passing track is comprised
of 39 foot 100 pound bolted rail.
As
a daily routine, Huron Central train 912 coming from Algoma
Steel in Sault Ste. Marie, pulls their train into the passing
track at Creosote, cuts it off there, then comes into Sudbury
to pick up cars for their return trip to the Sault.
CP
Train 436, originating at Sudbury, runs west from Sudbury to
Creosote to pick up the train from the passing track then heads
east through Sudbury to Romford and then south on the Parry
Sound Sub.
The
area of derailment is known for sun kinks as the trains are
always pulling in and out of the passing track in an eastward
direction. With the heat in the mid 30's here today it doesn't
surprise me that this incident happened. The Company's well
aware of the problems we continually have at this location.
We had the Jackson tamper and regulator do repairs at the same
location (second time this year) about a week before the strike.
But with the steel creeping to the east end, due to the constant
eastwar movements and the lack of sufficient rail anchors, its
only a matter of time before the steel has nowhere else to go
but sideways.
I
understand that Hulcher's from Toronto are coming to clean up
the mess.
